How to Run This Survey
1. Keep it anonymous
Employees give more honest feedback when they know responses can't be traced back to them.
2. Set a deadline
Give employees 1-2 weeks to complete the survey. Send a reminder halfway through.
3. Share results
Summarize the findings and share them with the team. Transparency builds trust.
4. Act on the feedback
Identify the top 2-3 issues and create an action plan. Surveys without follow-through erode trust faster than not surveying at all.
5. Repeat quarterly or biannually
One survey is a snapshot. Regular surveys show trends.
How to Interpret Results
| Average Score | What it means | Action |
|---|---|---|
| 4.0-5.0 | Strong satisfaction | Maintain current practices, recognize what's working |
| 3.0-3.9 | Moderate satisfaction | Investigate specific areas scoring below 3.5 |
| 2.0-2.9 | Low satisfaction | Prioritize improvement — this is a retention risk |
| Below 2.0 | Critical | Immediate attention needed — likely affecting turnover and productivity |
Pay special attention to the gap between sections. If "Job Satisfaction" scores high but "Compensation" scores low, employees like their work but feel underpaid — a common precursor to turnover.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about employee satisfaction surveys.
15-20 questions is the sweet spot. Fewer than 10 doesn't give you enough data; more than 25 leads to survey fatigue and lower completion rates. This template has 17 questions.
Yes. Compensation is one of the top drivers of satisfaction and turnover. Employees expect you to ask about it. Leaving it out signals you're not interested in addressing it.
Don't panic. Negative feedback is actionable intelligence. Share the results transparently, acknowledge the issues, and present a plan to address the top concerns. Follow through is what matters.
Yes. The Google Docs template is fully editable. Add questions specific to your company, remove sections that don't apply, or adjust the rating scales.
