Average Salary in Jamaica (2026): BPO Pay, Minimum Wage, Costs
Jamaica has no current official average-wage series, so this guide builds from what is verifiable: a J$17,000-per-week minimum wage from July 2026, entry-level BPO agent pay of J$400 to J$650 an hour reported by the industry association, PayScale market data, and employer statutory costs of 12.5%.
Jamaica is the one Caribbean hiring market where the honest answer to "what is the average salary" starts with a caveat: the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) has not published a national earnings series since its Employment and Earnings in Large Establishments table for 2012, which showed J$19,606 a week. Every "average salary in Jamaica" figure you will find online, from J$150,000 to J$272,604 a month, is a market estimate rather than an official statistic. What can be verified is the legal floor, J$17,000 per 40-hour week from July 1, 2026, the entry pay in the business process outsourcing sector that employs around 60,000 people, and the market ranges from the largest salary surveys. This guide is built from those.
Exchange rate and dates
Dollar figures use J$157.57 per US dollar, the mid-market rate from exchangerate-api.com for September 19, 2026. The Jamaican dollar has depreciated slowly but steadily for a decade, so dollar conversions from 2024 sources overstate today's cost by a few percent. Each figure names its period and source.
The Official Numbers
STATIN runs a quarterly Labour Force Survey, revised in January 2024 to the latest International Conference of Labour Statisticians standards, and it reports employment, unemployment and participation. In January 2026 the labour force stood at 1,441,000. The survey does not publish an average wage. STATIN's separate earnings series, drawn from a panel of large establishments, was last updated on July 4, 2013 with 2012 data: J$19,606 a week for all employees and J$10,038 a week for hourly-rated wage earners across 170,852 workers. Converted to a month that is about J$84,960, which is a 14-year-old number and should not be presented as a current average.
That vacuum is why the figures elsewhere vary so widely. Wikipedia's infobox gives J$272,604 gross a month without a dated source. RemotePeople quotes J$216,449, WorkStaff360 J$150,000 to J$200,000, TimeCamp J$70,000 to J$120,000, and several pages cite J$160,000 as if it came from STATIN. SalaryExpert's modelled figure, J$2,407,551 a year or about J$200,600 a month as of August 2026, is the most transparent of the estimates because it is built from a job-level compensation model with a stated range (J$1,125,594 to J$4,591,618). PayScale's role-level data has real sample sizes and is used for the role table below.
For an employer, the practical benchmarks are three: the statutory minimum wage, which is official; the BPO sector's own account of what agents are paid, which comes from the industry association; and the role-level survey ranges, which are market data.
Minimum Wage in Jamaica
Jamaica sets a single national minimum wage per week rather than per month or per hour, plus a higher rate for security guards. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security administers it and the Prime Minister announces changes in the Budget Debate.

The 2026 increase of J$1,000 was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on March 19, 2026 and reported by the Jamaica Information Service. He noted the government had signalled J$18,500 before Hurricane Melissa and rising energy and shipping costs led it to settle on J$17,000, and restated a commitment to move toward a livable wage in further phased increases. The minimum applies to all employees, including BPO agents, and the former president of the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica has said publicly that legitimate operators pay well above it.
Under the minimum wage orders, overtime is payable at time and a half beyond 40 hours in a week and double time on public holidays and rest days, so an agent on a 45-hour schedule costs more than the weekly figure suggests.
The Global Services Sector
Jamaica's outsourcing industry, which the government calls the global services sector, is the reason most US companies research Jamaican salaries. JAMPRO, the investment promotion agency, puts sector employment at about 60,000 jobs and annual sector spending at US$900 million, describes the sector as having the highest employment growth of any industry over the past decade, and states that call center and BPO salaries are 40% to 60% below comparable North American positions. Alorica, Teleperformance, Conduent, Sutherland, HGS and Vistaprint all run large operations, mostly in Kingston and Montego Bay under the Special Economic Zone Act.
On pay, the most authoritative recent statement comes from Gloria Henry, former president of the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica, responding in March 2026 to claims that call centers paid J$200 an hour. She said base entry-level pay runs from J$400 to J$650 an hour, with attendance incentives, performance commissions and overtime premiums on top. On a 173-hour month that is J$69,300 to J$112,600 in base pay, about $440 to $715, before incentives. What Remote and BPO Roles Pay
The table combines the BPIAJ statement for agents with PayScale's Jamaica data for other roles. PayScale figures are the average and the 10th to 90th percentile of self-reported profiles, with sample sizes and dates shown, read on September 19, 2026. Hourly figures are converted at 173.3 hours a month.

Team leaders and quality analysts in BPO sit above the agent band; PayScale does not publish a Jamaican sample for those titles, and one employer-of-record guide (Pebl) cites J$150,000 to J$220,000 a month for experienced agents and team leaders, which is consistent with the accountant and developer averages but is not survey data. A US company hiring a Jamaican support agent directly should budget J$90,000 to J$130,000 a month in base pay to compete with the large operators, plus a performance incentive, and treat J$150,000 and up as team lead territory.
What It Costs to Employ Someone in Jamaica
Jamaica's employer contributions are low by regional standards, and there is no mandatory thirteenth-month payment. The rates below are from PwC's Jamaica tax summary, last reviewed December 31, 2025, and the HEART/NSTA Trust.

Employees are also subject to PAYE income tax above an annual threshold, withheld by the employer, which affects take-home but not employer cost. Vacation leave is two weeks a year after the first year for most employees, and the Employment (Termination and Redundancy Payments) Act requires redundancy pay after two years of service.
Worked example: one customer service agent. Assume J$500 an hour, mid-way in the BPIAJ entry range, for 174 hours: J$87,000 a month.

The load is about 12.4% above base, the lowest of the nearshore markets on this site. Attendance and performance incentives, which the large operators use to reach total compensation of J$100,000 or more, are on top. Salary Trends
Prices are rising faster than in most nearshore markets. STATIN reported point-to-point inflation of 7.9% for August 2026, up from 7.5% in July and above the Bank of Jamaica's 4% to 6% target, driven by a 1.5% monthly rise in food prices. The minimum wage rose 6.25% in July 2026 after a larger increase in June 2025, and the government has said further phased increases will follow. With no official wage series, the best forward indicator for BPO pay is the minimum wage schedule plus the sector's own statements; a 5% to 8% annual increase for agent base pay is a prudent planning assumption while inflation stays near 8%.
How US and UK Companies Pay Workers in Jamaica
Most foreign companies enter Jamaica through a BPO operator under the Special Economic Zone Act, which gives the operator tax concessions and gives you an outsourced team without an entity.
