If you had typed 38.50 instead of 38.83, the employee would be underpaid by 0.33 hours, or $6.11. Adding the daily decimals (8.25 + 7.83 + 8.08 + 7.33 + 7.33 = 38.82) gives a one-cent difference from converting the total, which is normal rounding drift.

Quarter-Hour Rounding and the 7-Minute Rule
Some employers round clock-in and clock-out times to the nearest quarter hour before converting to decimal.
